I don’t include formal dedications in my books. I can only think of once or twice in print books when I did – and of course they were dedicated to Kim.
I do, however, thank the people who help.
I’ve just finished my latest book. It’s an update of “A Swift Kickstart” to support the latest version of the Swift Programming Language and recent additions in programming tools that allow readers to follow along on a Mac or an iPad.
The credits were hard to write. I kept the story of Kim from the first edition and updated it.
It’s really the dedication for this book.
As I wrapped up the first edition of this book, Maggie was preparing to head for college. Such a huge moment in her life and in Kim’s and mine.
I’ve told Kim that now we can hang out more and talk.
She nods and says, maybe I should go up to my office and start my next book.
As I return to write the second edition, Kim is no longer with us. She was killed in an automobile accident in the summer of 2016.
It makes me happy to see the reference to her above – it reminds me that she was a part of every aspect of my life.
Thank you Kim for everything. I miss you.
